Directions

To Green Acres (Aransas County Extension Office), Rockport:

From north of Rockport, take Business 35 through town. At the Loop 70/Hwy 35 split, stay on 35 for 0.3 mile. Turn left onto Pearl Street and go one block to Green Acres, on the right. From south of Rockport, turn off the Hwy 35 Bypass at the FM 1069  (Market Street) exit. At the stop sign, turn right onto FM 1069 (Market Street) and go 1.4 miles to the intersection with Business 35 (Bronte Street). Turn left onto Business 35 and travel 0.3 mile to Mimosa St. Turn right onto Mimosa Street just past The Mail Depot. Travel three blocks to the intersection of Mimosa and Pearl. Green Acres is on the right, across Pearl from Aransas County Library.

To Interpreting Nature Training, Rio Vista Bluff Ranch:

From Refugio, travel north on US 77 toward Victoria 22.5 miles from the intersection of 77 and Alt 77/183. Three miles after passing the exit for Tivoli, FM 239, look for the green sign that reads, "McFaddin” and turn right onto FM 445. From Victoria, travel 9.8 miles from the flashing light and Exxon station just south of where US 59 and US 77 to the “McFaddin” sign and turn left onto FM 445. If you travel north on TX 35, turn left on FM 239 in Tivoli, travel approx 11 miles to US 77, turn right, travel to FM 445, and turn right toward McFaddin. 

Follow FM 445 for 2 miles. Turn left onto gravel road just before the railroad track and the grain elevators. Follow the gravel road (see details below) for about 5.7 miles to the Rio Vista Bluff Ranch lodge. Signs will mark the route at forks or turns.

Detailed directions for travel on gravel road: Travel 0.7 miles to fork in road, which will be shortly after passing over a bridge. Turn right and follow until crossing over railroad tracks. Turn left and follow main road, continuing straight when you come to a cattle guard and can see a road that turns to the right. Do not enter the road marked "Private Road." Cross over cattle guard and continue to the Rio Vista Bluff Ranch gate, which is well marked. The gate is 3 miles from McFaddin. When you have gone through the gate, stay on main road and stay to the right when the road forks. You will pass a set of petroleum tanks and compressor station just under a mile before coming to the Lodge, which will be on the left. Again, signs mark the way.

To Aransas National Wildlife Refuge:

From Rockport/Fulton at the Copano Bay bridge, take TX 35 north 15.6 miles to the flashing light on FM 774. Turn right onto FM 774 and go approximately 9 miles to FM 2040. Turn right and follow FM 2040 for about 7 miles to the refuge entrance. From Tivoli, take TX 35 south 1.5 miles to FM 239. Turn left onto FM 239, go  through Austwell, and follow the ANWR signs to 774 and 2040.

At ANWR, go to the Wildlife Interpretive Center (main building) amphitheatre.

To Welder Wildlife Foundation:

From Sinton, turn right from TX 181 onto US 77 Business (Vineyard St). Go 7.1 miles from the intersection of 181 and Business 77. From Refugio, go south on US 77 17.1 miles from the intersection of 77 and Alt 77/183. 

Turn at the white Spanish-style gatehouse and wait at the gate for the Welder escort.

To Port Aransas City Marina Pavilion:

Drive to Aransas Pass and take the ferry to Port Aransas. After leaving the ferry, turn left at the first traffic signal onto J C Barr Blvd. Proceed approximately 3/10 of a mile to the covered pavilion on the right. Following the session at the Pavilion, the group will move to Woody's Sports Center at W. Cotter Avenue to catch the boat for the field portion of the session.

To Sea Gun—Catch the boat to Matagorda National Wildlife Refuge:

From Rockport/Fulton, turn right at the yellow Sea Gun Bait sign immediately after crossing the Copano Bay bridge and before the Park Rd 13 exit. At the boat ramp, turn right and proceed through the gates to Stall 9B, the last stall. From Port Lavaca/Victoria and north, travel south on TX Hwy  35, turn left at the yellow Sea Gun Bait sign just past Park Rd 13 and the Exxon station.

To Mad Island Marsh Preserve:

From Port Lavaca and south, travel north on TX 35 through Palacios and continue on 35 North when the road turns sharp left. Approximately 5 miles after 35 turns in Palacios, turn right onto 521 and proceed 5.2 miles to the intersection with FM 1095 at the Tin Top store. Turn right onto 1095 and travel 4.3 miles to CR 378/Brazos Tower Road just past a sharp right-hand bend. There is a gray house and a brown “Mad Island” sign directly across 1095. Turn left onto CR 378/Brazos Tower and travel 3 miles. Where the paved 378 curves sharply to the right, turn left onto dirt road CR 374/AP Ranch Road at the Mad Island WMA sign. Travel 1.6 miles on the dirt road until it dead-ends at the Mad Island gate. Open the gate—be sure to close it behind you—and follow the signs 4 miles to the Headquarters building. Note: do not be confused by the entrance to the Mad Island Lodge (private) just before you arrive at the Mad Island gate.

To Fennessey Ranch:

Meet at Crofutt's in Bayside, TX to caravan to the Fennessey Ranch:

From the intersection of U.S. Hwy 77 and FM 774 in Refugio, travel east 1.4 miles on FM 774 to the blinking yellow light at the intersection of 774 and FM 2678. Travel south 9.5 to the intersection of 2678 and FM 136. Continue straight on 136 to Crofutt's Bakery & Sandwich Shop (on the right) to meet the group. From Port Lavaca, travel TX Hwy 35 to the intersection with FM 774 and turn right onto 774. Travel approximately 20 miles to the intersection with 2678 and follow directions above. From Rockport, travel 35 south to TX Hwy 188 and turn right. Travel approximately 7 miles to the intersection of 188 and 136. Turn right onto 136 and travel 5.4 miles to Crofutt's Bakery & Sandwich Shop (on the left) to meet the group.

To Aransas County Library:

From north of Rockport, take Business 35 through town. At the Loop 70/Hwy 35 split, stay on 35 for 0.3 mile. Turn left onto Pearl Street and go one block to Aransas County Library, on the left. From south of Rockport, turn off the Hwy 35 Bypass at the FM 1069 exit. At the stop sign, turn right onto FM 1069 and go 1.4 miles to the intersection with Business 35. Turn left onto Business 35 and travel 0.3 mile to Mimosa St. Turn right onto Mimosa Street just past The Mail Depot. Travel three blocks to the intersection of Mimosa and Pearl. The Aransas County Library is on the right, across Pearl from Green Acres
